FAQ

Q01. What is Solar PV?

PV (Photovoltaic) solar panels generate electricity directly from sunlight, which can then be used to power your electric appliances and lights. In a grid connected PV system excess electricity which is not used at the time it's generated, can be fed (& sold) back to the electricity grid to be used by other homes and businesses. With a large PV solar panel system mounted on the roof and an energy efficient home, a home can generate more electricity than it uses, effectively becoming self sufficient in electricity using renewable energy.

Q02. What is the Process of Solar Power from sunlight?

With photovoltaic or "PV" solar energy can be harnessed by directly converting sunlight into electricity by use of semi-conductors. The solar cells in the system absorb incident light, an electric voltage arises from the charge carrier isolation in the semi-conductor and a current flow is then generated. The solar cells are combined into modules and connected with one other via electrical conducting paths. The DC current generated is therefore collected and, using a power inverter, can be converted into alternating current. This is the current usually in the mains network that is required by most household devices

Q03. Why should I go for Solar?

  • In One hour enough sunlight will hit the earth to meet the entire planet's energy needs for an entire year.
  • Each month of use of a one kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) Solar Power system prevents 150 lbs. of coal from being mined.
  • Each month of use of a one kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) Solar Power system prevents 300 lbs. of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
  • Solar power is possible everywhere.
  • Solar Power can be generated with solar energy which can be obtained on every roof, every surface.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint and gain energy independence
  • Solar power plants are often government supported.
  • Solar power is the modern form of power generation.
  • Solar power plants come with a long service guarantee.
  • Once the operational commissioning has been completed, hardly any maintenance will be necessary. Furthermore, the solar modules are stable and highly durable.
  • Solar Power is also environment friendly, since it does not consume any fuels and it produces no exhaust gases, CO2 emissions or any other harmful pollutants.
  • Solar Power is generated in decentralized form and is independent from conventional power stations.
  • Solar power systems can be easily adapted to meet your individual power demands and can be expanded upon according to your preferences.
  • Solar power ensures security. It is continually available, regardless of your location.
  • Solar power increases quality of life it is a source of energy that generates clean power and does nothing to harm the environment.
  • Solar power has the same quality as "normal current from the plug socket". The amount of energy generated depends on the solar radiation and the size of the solar surface.
  • Solar power in India is a secure cash investment. There are possibilities of obtaining promotional assistance, the extent of your potential earnings and the technical prerequisites from the national authorities and organizations.

Q04. What can Refex Energy provide?

Refex Energy continuously aims to provide its customers with the most efficient systems at various levels of the supply chain. We are constantly working to bring economical Photovoltaic (PV) systems without compromising the quality of these systems. Our engineers and project managers will help to deliver the best technology available for the application in question. Refex Energy can offer modules for grid connected, off grid back-up systems, standalone system, grid tied systems and Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions.

Q05. How much does a Refex Energy residential solar system cost?

  • Installed system pricing is highly site specific. Some of the factors that determine price include:
  • Individual requirement and the amount one would like to offset
  • Location of your home
  • Shape and height of roof
  • Roof accessibility
  • State and local incentives that may apply, in addition to the 30% federal investment tax credit

Q06. What size system do I need for my home?

  • A 1kW PV solar array generates about 1400 kWh/year of electricity. You should be able to see from your last 4 quarterly electricity bills how many kWh you used in a last year and therefore calculate how many kW of PV solar capacity you might need to be totally "self sufficient".
  • Another way to think about PV solar is to also use your array as an incentive to reduce the amount of energy you use by actively working towards the gap between your electricity use and the amount your solar array produces.  (This is similar to the way people who have water tanks tend to be more conscious of how much water they use.) Some people who have installed moderately sized PV solar systems have also found ways to reduce their electricity usage by up to 70% over time. It may be cheaper to undertake energy efficiency measures, rather than simply putting in a large array to meet your current requirements.

Q07. What is PV Module?

A photovoltaic or PV module consists of many interconnected Solar Cells, which are embedded between two glass or plastic plates to protect them from weather. Photovoltaic or PV modules are normally mounted on top of a roof (Roof-Mounted Solar Power System), or a holding rack of some sort, within a frame structure. Modules are delivered for standard voltages.

There are currently two prominently used commercial production technologies for photovoltaic or PV Modules

  • Crystalline

Single Crystalline or Monocrystalline
This is the oldest and more expensive production technique, but it's also the most efficient sunlight conversion technology available for Photovoltaic or PV Module. The Photovoltaic or PV Module efficiency averages about 10% to 12%*

Polycrystalline or Multicrystalline
This has a slightly lower conversion efficiency compared to single crystalline but manufacturing costs are also lower for Photovoltaic or PV Module. The Photovoltaic or PV Module efficiency averages about 10% to 11%*

  • Thin Film

Silicon material is vaporized and deposited on glass or stainless steel. The cost is lower than any other method. There are 3 types of Thin Films: Amorphous silicon (D-Si), Cadmium- telluride (CDTe), Copper-indium-diselenide (CIS) or CIGS. The Photovoltaic or PV Module efficiency averages 5% to 7%*.

Q08. How long will it take for someone to contact me once I submit my enquiry form?

A Refex Energy representative will contact you within two business days for a quick solar pre-qualification. Then we will do a Technical evaluation within five business days.

Q09. How is Refex Energy Network?

Refex Energy has its presence in major cities in India. For other cities in India the Technical team of site & installation will approach you within 5 working days.

Q10. Can you do installations off the roof or onto a tile roof?

In certain situations, a non-roof installation such as a ground-mount system can be designed. Our engineers will present a solution on installing a Refex Energy system onto tile roofs in a seamless fashion. You can discuss this in detail with Refex Energy representative during the initial solar assessment phase.

Q11. What type of maintenance is involved with a solar system? Are the panels fragile?

A solar system is relatively maintenance free as it has few moving parts. An occasional cleaning of panels will ensure optimal performance. However in case of an off grid system the battery performance although monitored might require changes depending on the life of the battery. While the panels are made of tempered glass, they're quite strong. They pass hail tests, and they are tested against extreme weather conditions.

Q12. How long does the entire process take from start to finish?

From start to finish, the solar installation process will take anywhere between 8 to 10 weeks. The actual on-site installation, however, only takes a couple of days and will not cause any inconvenience to your lifestyle. A major part of the time period is involved in gaining the required incentives and permits from the government.

Q13. How long will my Refex Energy Solar system last?

Refex Energy solar systems have a 5 years performance warranty and are known to last for minimum 20 years - longer than almost anything else you can buy. The other system components including inverters, controllers etc. have only 5 - 10 years warranty.
